Long for pure spiritual milk! (1 Pet 2:2)

“Like newborn infants,

Long for the pure,

Spiritual milk.

Thus,

By it

You may grow

Into salvation.”

ὡς ἀρτιγέννητα βρέφη τὸ λογικὸν ἄδολον γάλα ἐπιποθήσατε, ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ αὐξηθῆτε εἰς σωτηρίαν,

This author said, “Like (ὡς) newborn (ἀρτιγέννητα) infants (βρέφη), long for (ἐπιποθήσατε) the pure (ἄδολον), spiritual (τὸ λογικὸν) milk (γάλα).  Thus, by it (ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ) you may grow (αὐξηθῆτε) into salvation (εἰς σωτηρίαν).”  Only this author, 1 Peter, among all the canonical NT works used this word ἀρτιγέννητα, that means newborn or newly born, and the word ἄδολον, that means guileless, genuine, unadulterated, or pure.  This author used some unique words to say what these Jewish Christians should seek.  As they were reborn with Baptism, they were like newborn babies longing for pure spiritual milk.  Thus, like other humans, they could grow into salvation just as others mature into adults.  They were still babies in the faith seeking the proper nourishment.  Do you get the proper nourishment for your faith?
