May you be in good health (3 John 1:2)

“Beloved!

I pray

That all may go well

With you.

May you be

In good health,

Just as it is well

With your soul.”

Ἀγαπητέ, περὶ πάντων εὔχομαί σε εὐοδοῦσθαι καὶ ὑγιαίνειν, καθὼς εὐοδοῦταί σου ἡ ψυχή.

This author said, “Beloved (Ἀγαπητέ)!  I pray (εὔχομαί) that all (περὶ πάντων) may go well with you (σε εὐοδοῦσθαι).  May you be in good health (καὶ ὑγιαίνειν), just as it may go well (καθὼς εὐοδοῦταί) with your soul (σου ἡ ψυχή).”  This author like the previous John letters called his recipients beloved.  He prayed for Gaius that he might prosper, that all would go well for him.  He wanted him to be in good health.  At the same time, he wanted his soul to prosper, to do well, and be in good health.  He not only wanted good physical health but also good spiritual health for this Gaius.  Do you wish people good spiritual health as well as physical health?
