The language of this epistle of 2 John is remarkably similar to 3 John. Therefore, it appears that a single author composed both of these letters. At least, these two epistles seem to be written by the same person, an elder or presbyter around the turn of the first century. A strong argument could be made that 1 John is the same author as 2 John and 3 John, since many of the same themes appear. Perhaps 2 John might be the first chapter of 1 John with its greetings that were not in 1 John. Both 2 John and 3 John are very short letters or epistles. Do you write short letters?
