Common good (1 Cor. 12:7)

“To each is given

The manifestation

Of the Spirit

For the common good.”

ἑκάστῳ δὲ δίδοται ἡ φανέρωσις τοῦ Πνεύματος πρὸς τὸ συμφέρον.

Paul said to each is given (ἑκάστῳ δὲ δίδοται) the manifestation of the Spirit (ἡ φανέρωσις τοῦ Πνεύματος) for the common good (πρὸς τὸ συμφέρον).  Only this Corinthian letter used this word φανέρωσις, that means manifestation or disclosure.  Paul indicated that all these gifts, ministries, and activities were a manifestation or a revelation of the Holy Spirit with one purpose in mind, the common good.  All these good spiritual things were aimed at building up the community in Corinth.  They were the actions of the Holy Spirit among them, not individuals looking for their own glory.  They were for the common good of all, not just for each individual.  Do you seek the common good?
