You were washed in the name of the Lord (1 Cor. 6:11)

“This is what

Some of you

Used to be.

But you were washed.

You were sanctified.

You were justified

In the name

Of the Lord

Jesus Christ

And in the Spirit

Of our God.”

Paul said that this is what some of them used to be (καὶ ταῦτά τινες ἦτε).  But they were washed (ἀλλὰ ἀπελούσασθε).  They were sanctified (ἀλλὰ ἡγιάσθητε,).  They were justified (ἀλλὰ ἐδικαιώθητε) in the name (ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι) of the Lord Jesus Christ (τοῦ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ) and in the Spirit (καὶ ἐν τῷ Πνεύματι) of our God (τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν).  Paul reminded these Christian brothers at Corinth that they used to be involved with some of these same bad and evil behaviors.  However, something happened to them.  They were washed in baptism.  They were sanctified or put apart as followers of Jesus.  They were justified or acquitted before God.  This all came to be because of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit of God the Father.  Their lives had changed because of the Trinity of God.  Now they had to live up to that change in their lifestyle.  Do you feel washed from sinful ways?
