You did evil deeds (Col. 1:21)

You were once estranged

And hostile

In mind,

Doing evil deeds.”

καὶ ὑμᾶς ποτε ὄντας ἀπηλλοτριωμένους καὶ ἐχθροὺς τῇ διανοίᾳ ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς πονηροῖς,

Paul said, “You (καὶ ὑμᾶς) were once (ποτε) estranged (ὄντας ἀπηλλοτριωμένους) and hostile in mind (καὶ ἐχθροὺς τῇ διανοίᾳ), doing evil deeds (ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς πονηροῖς).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word ἀπηλλοτριωμένους, that means to alienate or to be estranged.  Paul reminded the Colossians that they were once separated from God with a hostile mindset.  They were doing evil deeds.  Paul told the Christians in Colossae that they were not always good Christians.  They had a past as pagan gentiles who were not with God but against him in their thinking and acting.  Were you ever estranged from God?
