Yahweh is great (Ps 145:1-145:3)

A song of praise of David

Aleph

“I will extol you!

My God!

My king!

Bless your name forever and ever!

Bet

Every day,

I will bless you!

I will praise your name forever and ever!

Gimel

Great is Yahweh!

He is greatly to be praised.

His greatness is unsearchable!”

Psalm 145 is an acrostic or Hebrew alphabet praise psalm of David about the God of Israel. David would extol God as his king. He would bless his name forever. Every day he blessed and praised his name. Yahweh was great with an unsearchable greatness. The first 3 letters of the Hebrew alphabet are found here in italic.

Yahweh is great (Ps 135:5-135:7)

“I know that Yahweh is great.

Our Yahweh is above all gods.

Whatever Yahweh pleases he does

In heaven and on earth.

Whatever Yahweh pleases he does

In the seas and all depths.

He makes the clouds rise

At the end of the earth.

He makes lightning

For the rain.

He brings forth the wind

From his storehouses.”

Yahweh is great, above all gods. He does whatever he pleases in heaven, on earth, and in the seas, no matter how deep they are. He makes the clouds rise, lightning for rain, and brings the winds out of his storehouses. The assumption was that Yahweh stored up his winds and then released them as he saw fit.

Yahweh is the answer (Ps 40:16-40:17)

“May all who seek you

Rejoice and be glad in you.

May those who love your salvation

Say continually.

‘Great is Yahweh!’

As for me,

I am poor and needy.

But Yahweh takes thought for me.

You are my help!

You are my deliverer!

Do not delay!

O my God!”

This psalm ends with the popular phrase “O my God” that appears so often as the surprise text expression, OMG. Yahweh is the answer for those who sought a life with rejoicing and gladness. Yahweh has a steadfast love for his followers since they continually say, “Yahweh is great.” This is somewhat like the Islamic “Allah is great.” As for the psalmist, he admits that that he is poor and needy. However, he puts his trust in Yahweh, who will help deliver him from various problems. All he asks is that there is no delay.
