The large army of Holofernes (Jdt 2:19-2:20)

“Then Holofernes set out with his whole army. He went ahead of King Nebuchadnezzar. He wanted to cover the whole face of the earth to the west with their chariots, cavalry, and picked foot soldiers. Along with them went a mixed crowd like a swarm of locusts, like the dust of the earth, a multitude that could not be counted.”

Once Holofernes had his army together, he set out first ahead of the king. He had a huge army of chariots, cavalry, and foot soldiers. They had so many people involved in this that they could not be counted. Clearly, the intent was to show a powerful army.
