We have redemption (Col. 1:14)

“We have redemption

And the forgiveness

Of sins

In God’s beloved Son.”

ἐν ᾧ ἔχομεν τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν, τὴν ἄφεσιν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν·

Paul said, “We have redemption (ἔχομεν τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν) and the forgiveness (τὴν ἄφεσιν) of sins (τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν) in God’s beloved Son (ἐν ᾧ).”  Paul explained that God’s beloved Son Jesus Christ brought them redemption and the forgiveness of their sins.  Jesus Christ was a redeemer and forgiver of sins at the same time.  This is similar to Ephesians, chapter 1:7, where Paul said, “In Christ (ἐν ᾧ), we have redemption (ἔχομεν τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν) through his blood (διὰ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτοῦ), the forgiveness (τὴν ἄφεσιν) of our trespasses (τῶν παραπτωμάτων), according to the riches (κατὰ τὸ πλοῦτος) of his grace (τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ).”  Paul clearly stated that Jesus Christ had redeemed them through his blood.  He had freed them from the slavery of sin.  He forgave them their former trespasses or sins.  He had paid the ransom price with his own blood.  Now we would be able to partake in the richness of the grace of God through Jesus Christ.  Just as the Israelites had been freed from Egypt, so too the followers of Jesus Christ were now free from sin due to the rich grace of God.  Do you believe that your sins have been forgiven?
