The world goes after Jesus (Jn 12:19-12:19)

“The Pharisees

Then said to one another.

‘You see!

You can do nothing!


The world

Has gone

After him!’”

οἱ οὖν Φαρισαῖοι εἶπαν πρὸς ἑαυτούς Θεωρεῖτε ὅτι οὐκ ὠφελεῖτε οὐδέν· ἴδε ὁ κόσμος ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἀπῆλθεν.

Then John uniquely indicated that then the Pharisees (οἱ οὖν Φαρισαῖοι) said (εἶπαν) to one another (πρὸς ἑαυτούς).  They could see (Θεωρεῖτε) that they could do nothing (ὅτι οὐκ ὠφελεῖτε οὐδέν).  They said that “Look (ἴδε)!  The whole world (ὁ κόσμος) has gone (ἀπῆλθεν) after Jesus (ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ).”  The Jerusalem Jewish leaders, particularly the Pharisees, were concerned about the growing popularity of Jesus.  They stated in ironic terms that the whole world was going after Jesus, when in fact, Jesus had come to save the whole world.  Do you believe that the whole world is going after Jesus?
