“To those
Who patiently
Do good works,
Seeking
Glory,
Honor,
And immortality,
God will give them
Eternal life.”
τοῖς μὲν καθ’ ὑπομονὴν ἔργου ἀγαθοῦ δόξαν καὶ τιμὴν καὶ ἀφθαρσίαν ζητοῦσιν ζωὴν αἰώνιον·
Paul said that those who patiently (τοῖς μὲν καθ’ ὑπομονὴν) were doing good works (ἔργου ἀγαθοῦ), seeking (ζητοῦσιν) glory (δόξαν), honor (καὶ τιμὴν), and immortality (καὶ ἀφθαρσίαν), God would give eternal life (ζωὴν αἰώνιον). Only the Pauline letters used this word ἀφθαρσίαν, that means incorruptibility, indestructibility, or immortality. Paul said that those who endure patiently in doing good works and seek glory, honor, and immortality will be rewarded by God with eternal life. There is no mystery about the afterlife. Paul, a true Pharisee, sees the reward of eternal life, the individual resurrection for a lifetime of good honorable and glorified good works. Seeking immortality with a life of good works is the way to go. Have you spent your life doing good things?
