The blessing of King David (1 Chr 29:10-29:13)

“Then King David blessed Yahweh in the presence of all the assembly.

‘Blessed are you, O Yahweh,

The God of our ancestor Israel, forever and ever.

Yours, O Yahweh, are the greatness,

The power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty.

All that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours.

Yours is the kingdom, O Yahweh.

You are exalted as head above all.

Riches and honor come from you.

You rule over all.

In your hand are power and might.

It is in your hand to make great,

To give strength to all.

Now we thank you, our God.

We praise your glorious name.’”

Once again, we have a great hymn of praise attributed to King David. King David has great praise for Yahweh. This is somewhat reminiscent of 2 Samuel, chapter 22. There are hints of Psalm 16. Yahweh, the God of Israel is to be blessed forever. Yahweh is great with all power and majesty. Everything on earth and in heaven is his. Yahweh is exalted above all. Everything comes from Yahweh, even riches and honors. In Yahweh’s hands are found power and might. We get all our strength from Yahweh, so we give him thanks for his great name. Many of these great themes of the greatness of God run throughout the songs, psalms, and prayers.
