Everyone brings presents to King Solomon (2 Chr 9:22-9:24)

“Thus King Solomon excelled over all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. All the kings of the earth sought the presence of King Solomon to hear his wisdom that God had put into his mind. Every one of them brought a present, objects of silver and gold, garments, weapons, spices, horses, and mules, so much year by year.”

Once again, this is almost word for word from 1 Kings, chapter 10. King Solomon’s wisdom was so great that kings from everywhere would come to King Solomon to hear the wise sayings that God had put into his mind. Supposedly he was the wisest and richest man in the whole world, according to this biblical author. They sought out his presence. However, in return, they gave him gifts of gold, silver, garments, weapons, spices, or animals. This went on for years. Thus he amassed a great fortune.

The gifts from the Queen of Sheba (2 Chr 9:5-9:9)

“The Queen of Sheba said to the king. ‘The report was true that I heard in my own land of your accomplishments and of your wisdom. But I did not believe the reports until I came. My own eyes had seen it. Not even half of the greatness of your wisdom had been told to me. Your wisdom and prosperity far surpass the report that I had heard. Happy are your people! Happy are your servants, who continually attend you and hear your wisdom! Blessed be Yahweh your God, who has delighted in you and set you on the throne of Israel! Because your God loved Israel, he would establish them forever. He has made you king over them that you may execute justice and righteousness.’ Then she gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. There were no spices such as those that the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.”

Based on 1 Kings, chapter 10, this is almost word for word about the gifts of the Queen of Sheba. This Queen of Sheba praised King Solomon because his wisdom exceeded what she had heard about him. His prosperity exceeded her expectations. Solomon’s people, not wives, and servants seemed to be so happy to be around such a wonderful man. One change here is that the people not the wives of King Solomon are happy. He is also blessed by Yahweh. She apparently knew about Yahweh and Israel. Then she gave her gifts of gold, the same as King Hiram of Tyre, about a half a billion in gold, $500,000,000.00 USA dollars worth, innumerable spices, and precious stones. No one had ever seen the kind of spices that she gave King Solomon.
