Woe to the wicked (Mic 2:1-2:2)

“Woe to those

Who devise wickedness!

Woe to those

Who devise evil deeds

On their beds!

When the morning dawns,

They perform them,

Because it is

In their power.

They covet fields.

They seize them.

They covet houses.

They take them away.

They oppress

The householder

With his house.

They oppress

People

With their inheritance.”

Yahweh, via Micah, warned about the evil wicked people, who were devising evil deeds from their beds.  Then when they got up in the morning, they put their thoughts into action, because of their power.  If they wanted a field or a house, they would seize the field and the house.  By taking them away, they were oppressing the one who owned the house, his household, and the house itself, the people with their inheritance.

Bad leaders (Isa 3:12-3:12)

“My people!

Children are

Their oppressors.

Women rule

Over them.

O my people!

Your leaders

Mislead you.

They confused

The course of your paths.”

Isaiah rails against the bad leaders in Judah. They mislead his people, the Israelites. They confused them. They led them on the wrong paths. Now however, they are suffering because children are oppressing them. One of the terrible things that happened to them was being ruled by women, since Isaiah considered this an evil thing.

The disappearing wicked (Ps 37:35-37:36)

Resh

“I have seen the wicked oppressing.

They were towering like a cedar of Lebanon.

Again I passed by,

And they were no more.

Though I sought them,

They could not be found.”

The wicked had been oppressing the righteous like the huge cedars of Lebanon. However, when the righteous went back, the wicked were not around anymore. They sought out the wicked but they could not find them.
