May Christ dwell in your hearts (Eph. 3:17)

“I pray

That Christ

May dwell

In your hearts

Through faith.

You are being rooted

And grounded

In love.”

κατοικῆσαι τὸν Χριστὸν διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν, ἐν ἀγάπῃ ἐρριζωμένοι καὶ τεθεμελιωμένοι,

Paul said, “I pray that Christ (τὸν Χριστὸν) may dwell in your hearts (ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν) through faith (διὰ τῆς πίστεως).  You are being rooted (ἐρριζωμένοι) and grounded (καὶ τεθεμελιωμένοι) in love (ἐν ἀγάπῃ).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word ἐρριζωμένοι, that means to cause to take root, plant, fix firmly, or establish.  Paul continued his prayer for the Christians in Ephesus.  He prayed that Jesus Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith.  He told them their love of God and other humans was based, rooted, and grounded in love (ἀγάπῃ).  Love was the basic foundation for any Christian experience.  Jesus Christ and faith would bring about this love in their lives.  With Jesus Christ dwelling in them through their belief in him, their deeply based love would come forward.  Do you live a life of faith and love?
