“But law came in,
With the result
That the trespasses
Multiplied.
But where sin increased,
Grace abounded all the more.”
Paul said that the law (νόμος) came in (δὲ παρεισῆλθεν), with the result that the trespasses or sins (τὸ παράπτωμα) multiplied or abounded (ἵνα πλεονάσῃ). But where sin (ἡ ἁμαρτία) increased (ἐπλεόνασεν), grace (ἡ χάρις) abounded all the more or super abounded (ὑπερεπερίσσευσεν). Only the Pauline letters used this word παρεισῆλθεν, that means to come in from the side or enter secretly. With the subtle entrance of the law, sins or trespasses multiplied. As sins increased, grace abounded more or super abounded. The subtle law meant that more sins would be exposed. However, God’s grace would increase more than these sins like a super grace or an exponential growth. There would be enough grace to overpower sin. Are you on the side of sin or grace?
