This parable story about the poor man Lazarus and an unnamed rich man is only found in Luke, not in the other gospels. Luke indicated that Jesus said that the rich man was living in torment (ὑπάρχων ἐν βασάνοις) in Hades (καὶ ἐν τῷ Ἅιδῃ), the Greek name for hell, a permanent place of damnation as opposed to the vague Hebrew afterlife Sheol, the place of the dead. This rich man looked up or lifted up his eyes (ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ). He saw Abraham (ὁρᾷ Ἀβραὰμ), far away (ἀπὸ μακρόθεν), with Lazarus in his bosom (καὶ Λάζαρον ἐν τοῖς κόλποις αὐτοῦ). Both Abraham and Lazarus were together, but far away since there was a clear difference between where the rich man and Lazarus with Abraham were. Just as in life, there was a difference between the rich man and Lazarus, so too in death. Do you believe that there will be options in the afterlife?
This is almost word for word in Mark, chapter 15:36. There was nothing about Elijah in Luke, chapter 23, and in John, chapter 19. Matthew said that some of the other bystanders (οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ εἶπαν) wanted to wait and see whether Elijah would come to save Jesus (Ἄφες ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται Ἡλείας σώσων αὐτόν). Other ancient manuscripts have the additional symbolic phrase that can be found in John, 19:34 that happened after Jesus had died. This verse read “Another soldier took a spear and pierced his side. Then out came water and blood (ἄλλος δὲ λαβὼν λόγχην ἔνυξεν αὐτοῦ τὴν πλευράν, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὕδωρ καὶ αἷμα).”
Yahweh wanted the prophet Zechariah to take the gold and silver that the former exile captives had given him and make a crown out it. He was to set this crown on the head of the high priest Joshua, the son of Jehozadak. Perhaps this is a mistake and maybe it should be Governor Zerubbabel, since this ruler ends up with a priest by his side. This newly crowned person would be the branch that would spread out. He was the one who was going to build the temple of Yahweh. Thus, he would have a royal honor and sit on a throne ruling the people. However, they were still under Persian jurisdiction. Both the priest and this new ruler would get along peacefully.
Yahweh, via Ezekiel, listed the allies of Gog. Ezekiel seemed to remind Gog who was on his side. Persia was an ally. Cush or Ethiopia was also on his side. Put or Libya was also with him. Of course, they all had their shields and helmets. Also with Gog were the people of Gomer, who was the biblical son of Japheth, the son of Noah, with his army. Beth-togarmah, the horse traders with Tyre from chapter 27, from the remote north, was also with Gog. Once again, these northern countries had lots of people in their armies.
The voice of Yahweh continued telling Ezekiel how to make his bread. It will be a combination of wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt. These last two were grains and flours. This sounds more like a stew or a soup, than rich bread. Ezekiel was to be put this combination of ingredients into one pot or vessel to make bread for himself. He was to eat this bread while he was laying on his side for the 390 days. He could eat 20 shekel weight of food daily at specific times, maybe once a day. It is not clear who was preparing his food.
When in distress, this psalmist called on Yahweh. Yahweh had answered him already, unlike the many psalms that asked Yahweh to answer them. He was set free into the broad place at large. With Yahweh at his side, he had no one to fear. No mortal could hurt him. He was going to be triumphant. His haters would have been better off with Yahweh. They should have put their confidence in Yahweh rather than trust in mortals and princes to protect them. Yahweh was much superior to mortals and human princes.
Once again, Psalm 27 is a psalm of David about deliverance. Who should he fear? Yahweh was his light, his salvation, and his stronghold. He had no one to fear because Yahweh was on his side. Yahweh was the light and salvation of David. Those in the light are saved. Who should he fear if Yahweh was on his side? There was no one else to fear. Yahweh was his stronghold or fortress, against all attacks.
