Gentiles are alienated from God (Eph. 4:18)

“The gentiles

Are darkened

In their understanding,

Alienated from the life

Of God

Because of their inner ignorance

And their hardness of heart.”

Paul said, “The gentiles are darkened (ἐσκοτωμένοι) in their understanding (τῇ διανοίᾳ ὄντες), alienated (ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι) from the life of God (τῆς ζωῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ) because of their inner ignorance (διὰ τὴν ἄγνοιαν τὴν οὖσαν ἐν αὐτοῖς) and hardness of heart (διὰ τὴν πώρωσιν τῆς καρδίας).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι, that means to alienate or estrange from.  Paul continued to insist that the gentiles were dumb.  They had a darkened understanding of reality.  They were alienated or estranged from the life of God.  They hand an inner ignorance and hard hearts.  Paul clearly did not like the lack of divine knowledge and empty headedness on the part of the gentiles.  Are you ignorant with a hard heart?
