εἶπεν δὲ καὶ τούτῳ Καὶ σὺ ἐπάνω γίνου πέντε πόλεων.
Luke indicated that Jesus said the nobleman told the second slave (ἶπεν δὲ καὶ τούτῳ) that he was going to rule over 5 cities (Καὶ σὺ ἐπάνω γίνου πέντε πόλεων). Since this second trader slave had done well, he was put in charge of 5 cities. There was something similar in Matthew, chapter 25:23, perhaps indicating a Q source. Jesus said that this master said to this second diligent trader slave (ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ) that he done a good job (Εὖ). He was a good trustworthy slave (δοῦλε ἀγαθὲ καὶ πιστέ). As he had been trustworthy or faithful in a few things (ἐπὶ ὀλίγα ἦς πιστός), this master was going to put him in charge or appoint him over many things (ἐπὶ πολλῶν σε καταστήσω), without being specific. This second slave was to enter into the joy of his master or lord (εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν χαρὰν τοῦ κυρίου σου). Notice that the Greek wording in Matthew, was exactly the same, word for word, as it was for the first slave with the 5 talents. They both belonged in the same category as good trustworthy faithful slaves. Meanwhile, Luke was giving both these slave earthly responsibilities, being in charge of 5 and 10 cities. What is the best reward you ever got?

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Εὖγε, ἀγαθὲ δοῦλε, ὅτι ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ πιστὸς ἐγένου, ἴσθι ἐξουσίαν ἔχων ἐπάνω δέκα πόλεων.
Luke indicated that Jesus said that the nobleman told the first slave (καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ) that he had done well as a good slave (Εὖγε, ἀγαθὲ δοῦλε). He had been trustworthy in a very small thing (ὅτι ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ πιστὸς ἐγένου), he was now going to be put in charge of 10 cities (ἴσθι ἐξουσίαν ἔχων ἐπάνω δέκα πόλεων). There is something similar in Matthew, chapter 25:21, perhaps indicating a Q source. Jesus said that this master or lord said to this diligent trader slave (ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ) that he done a good job (Εὖ). He was a good trustworthy slave (δοῦλε ἀγαθὲ καὶ πιστέ). This idea of being in the presence of his master was similar to the idea of being in the presence of God. However, Luke had a more specific earthly reward. Have you ever received a reward for some work that you did?
‘I have kept
Since my youth.’”
ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα ἐκ νεότητος.
Luke indicated that this ruler replied (ὁ δὲ εἶπεν) that he had kept all these commandments (Ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα) since his youth (ἐκ νεότητος). This comment can also be found in Mark, chapter 10:20, and Matthew, chapter 19:20, but slightly different, with Luke closer to Mark, who indicated that this man responded to Jesus (ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτῷ). Once again, he called Jesus “Teacher (Διδάσκαλε).” He said that he had kept or observed all these commandments (ταῦτα πάντα ἐφυλαξάμην) from his youth (ἐκ νεότητός μου). In Matthew, this person was identified as a young man, who responded to Jesus (λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ νεανίσκος). He said that he had kept or observed all these commandments (Ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα). Mark and Luke added “from his youth,” but in Matthew he was still a young man. What was he still lacking (τί ἔτι ὑστερῶ)? This seems like a very forthright righteous person who was trying to do the best that he could. Have you been a faithful commandment follower since your youth?

νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου, ἀποδεκατεύω πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι.
Luke has Jesus tell this parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector that is only found in this gospel. Luke indicated that Jesus said that this Pharisee said that he fasted twice a week (νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου) and he gave a tenth of all his income (ποδεκατεύω πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι). Normally, the Pharisees fasted on Mondays and Thursdays. This was a good thing. This Pharisee fasted and did not eat twice a week. Besides, he tithed all his income, as he gave 10% to the Temple. There was nothing wrong with this behavior. He was a faithful Jewish person. The problem was his attitude, not how he acted. Was is your attitude toward your religious practices?

καὶ εἰ ἐν τῷ ἀλλοτρίῳ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε, τὸ ἡμέτερον τίς δώσει ὑμῖν;
Once again, this is a unique statement of Luke, not found in the other gospel stories. Luke indicated that Jesus said that if they had not been faithful or trustworthy (καὶ εἰ…πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε) with what belongs to another (ἐν τῷ ἀλλοτρίῳ), who would give them what is their own (τὸ ἡμέτερον τίς δώσει ὑμῖν)? Why should you be trusted with your own stuff, when you do not know how to handle other people’s stuff, money or other things? Are you trustworthy with borrowed money?
You have not been faithful
With the dishonest wealth,
Who will entrust
The true riches?”
εἰ οὖν ἐν τῷ ἀδίκῳ μαμωνᾷ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε, τὸ ἀληθινὸν τίς ὑμῖν πιστεύσει;
Once again, this is a unique statement of Luke, not found in the other gospel stories. Luke indicated that Jesus said that if they had not been faithful (εἰ οὖν…πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε) with dishonest wealth (ἐν τῷ ἀδίκῳ μαμωνᾷ), who would entrust to them true riches (ἀληθινὸν τίς ὑμῖν πιστεύσει)? If they have not handled the mammon or dishonest money correctly, who would give them true wealth? Do you handle money well?

At the proper time.’”
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς οἰκονόμος ὁ φρόνιμος, ὃν καταστήσει ὁ κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς θεραπείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ διδόναι ἐν καιρῷ τὸ σιτομέτριον;
Luke indicated that Jesus, the Lord asked them (καὶ εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος) who was the faithful and prudent or wise household manager (Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς οἰκονόμος ὁ φρόνιμος)? His lord or master would put him (ὃν καταστήσει ὁ κύριος) in charge to care (ὃν καταστήσει ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ) for his other slaves. He would then give to the other slaves (αὐτοῦ τοῦ διδόναι) their correct allowance or measure of food (τὸ σιτομέτριον) at the proper time (ἐν καιρῷ). This is the only use of the word σιτομέτριον, meaning, a measured portion of food, in the biblical literature. There is a similar parable about this good slave in Matthew, chapter 24:45, almost word for word, indicating a possible Q source. Matthew indicated that Jesus asked who was the faithful and wise slave (Τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν ὁ πιστὸς δοῦλος καὶ φρόνιμος)? This lord or master had put this slave in charge over his other household slaves (ὃν κατέστησεν ὁ κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκετείας αὐτοῦ). He was to give the other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time (τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς τὴν τροφὴν ἐν καιρῷ). The lord or master had put one wise and faithful servant in charge of his other slaves. Are you a wise and faithful servant of God?
