All the gentiles shall be blessed (Gal. 3:8)

“The scripture,

Foreseeing

That God would justify

The gentiles by faith,

Preached the gospel

Beforehand to Abraham,

Saying.

‘All the gentiles

Shall be blessed

In you.’”

Paul said, “The scripture (δὲ ἡ γραφὴ), foreseeing beforehand (προϊδοῦσα) that God (ὁ Θεὸς) would justify the gentiles (δικαιοῖ τὰ ἔθνη) by faith (ὅτι ἐκ πίστεως), preached the gospel (προευηγγελίσατο) to Abraham (τῷ Ἀβραὰμ), saying, ‘All the gentiles (πάντα τὰ ἔθνη) shall be blessed (ὅτι Ἐνευλογηθήσονται) in you (ἐν σοὶ).’” Paul said that scripture foretold the gospel that was going to happen.  God knew that all the nations of the world would be blessed via Abraham.  Based on Genesis, chapter 12:3, “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse.  In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”  Yahweh called Abram to leave his county and family to go where he would show him.  This is a common biblical theme, to go where you know not what is going to happen because you trust in Yahweh.  In Genesis, chapter 18:8, Yahweh said that “Abraham shall become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him”, much like in chapter 15.  Paul expanded on the all the families of the earth to mean all the nations on the earth or all the gentiles on earth.  Paul saw the clear connection between the faith of Abraham and faith in Jesus Christ for everyone.  Paul intended to follow through bringing the good news of Jesus Christ to all the nations of the world, all the gentiles or non-Jewish people.  Are you trying to expand your Christian beliefs to other people?
