There was a great earthquake (Rev 11:13)

“At that moment,

There was a great earthquake.

A tenth of the city

Seven thousand people

Were killed

In the earthquake.

The rest were terrified

And gave glory

To the God of heaven.”

John said, “At that moment (Καὶ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ), there was a great earthquake (ἐγένετο σεισμὸς μέγας).  A tenth (καὶ τὸ δέκατον) of the city (τῆς πόλεως) fell (ἔπεσεν).  Seven thousand (χιλιάδες ἑπτά) named people (ὀνόματα ἀνθρώπων) were killed (καὶ ἀπεκτάνθησαν) in the earthquake (ἐν τῷ σεισμῷ).  The rest (καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ) were terrified (ἔμφοβοι ἐγένοντο) and gave (καὶ ἔδωκαν) glory (δόξαν) to the God (τῷ Θεῷ) of heaven (τοῦ οὐρανοῦ).”  John indicated as the two witnesses were being brought up to heaven that there was a large earthquake that destroyed a tenth of this great city, presumably Jerusalem.  7,000 people were killed, perhaps indicating a sevenfold judgment.  Unlike at other times, there was a repentance here among those who survived.  They were terrified by the earthquake and struck with fear.  Thus, having experienced the story of the two witnesses with the earthquake, they gave glory to the God of heaven.  Have you ever been in an earthquake?
