The horses’ mouths and tails inflicted harm (Rev 9:19)

“The power

Of the horses

Was in their mouths

And in their tails.

Their tails

Were like serpents,

Having heads.

With them,

They inflicted harm.”

John said, “The power (ἡ γὰρ ἐξουσία) of the horses (τῶν ἵππων) was in their mouths (ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν ἐστιν) and in their tails (καὶ ἐν ταῖς οὐραῖς αὐτῶν).  Their tails were (αἱ γὰρ οὐραὶ αὐτῶν) like serpents (ὅμοιαι ὄφεσιν), having heads (ἔχουσαι κεφαλάς).  With them (καὶ ἐν αὐταῖς), they inflicted harm (ἀδικοῦσιν).”  This is the only use of this Greek word that appears only in Revelation and not in any other canonical Greek biblical NT writing, the word οὐραῖς or οὐραὶ, that means tail.  John seemed to indicate that the riders of the horses did not have to do much.  The mouths and the tails of the horses did all the damage.  Besides, the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur from the horses’ mouths, he seemed to indicate that these horses had a powerful tail, also like serpent or snake’s tail, that did a lot of damage.  These horses were very dangerous.  Have you ever seen dangerous horses?
