The destruction of one third of the sea (Rev 8:9)

“A third of the sea

Became blood.

A third of the living creatures

In the sea

Died.

A third of the ships

Were destroyed.”

John said, “A third (τὸ τρίτον) of the sea (τῆς θαλάσσης) became (καὶ ἐγένετο) blood (αἷμα).  A third (τὸ τρίτον) of the living (τὰ ἔχοντα ψυχάς) creatures (τῶν κτισμάτων) in the sea (τῶν ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ) died (καὶ ἀπέθανεν).  A third (τὸ τρίτον) of the ships (τῶν πλοίων) were destroyed (διεφθάρησαν).”  Once again, as in verse 7, just like after the first angel blew his trumpet, John said that one third of everything living in the sea died.  One third of the sea became like blood.  Finally, one third of the ships in the sea were destroyed.  This was not total destruction, but only a partial destruction, using the formula of one out of three suffering.  After the first angel, one third of the land was burnt up.  This second trumpet blast had the same effect on the sea.  Have you ever seen a sea ship destroyed?
