Fire was thrown on the earth (Rev 8:5)

“Then the angel

Took the censer

And filled it

With fire

From the altar.

He threw it

On the earth.

There were peals

Of thunder,

Flashes of lightning,

And an earthquake.”

John said, “Then the angel (ὁ ἄγγελος) took (καὶ εἴληφεν) the censer (τὸν λιβανωτόν) and filled it (καὶ ἐγέμισεν αὐτὸν) with fire (ἐκ τοῦ πυρὸς) from the altar (τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου).  He threw it (καὶ ἔβαλεν) on the earth (εἰς τὴν γῆν).  There were (καὶ ἐγένοντο) peals of thunder (βρονταὶ), rumblings (καὶ φωναὶ), flashes of lightning (καὶ ἀστραπαὶ), and an earthquake (καὶ σεισμός).”  This is the only use of this Greek word that appears only in Revelation and not in any other canonical biblical NT writing, the word λιβανωτὸν, that means frankincense or a censer.  John said that this angel filled up his censer with fire from the altar.  This was the first mention of any fire on the golden heavenly altar.  Then this angel threw the censer with the fire to the earth.  This then created thunder, rumblings, and lightnings, as well as an earthquake on earth.  This was again a lot like Ezekiel, chapter 10:2, “Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim.  Scatter them over the city.”  Yahweh wanted him to fill his hands with burning coals.  Then he was to go into the city of Jerusalem and scatter them all over the place.  Do you see the connection between God, fire, thunder, lightning, and earthquakes?
