Another angel with a golden censer (Rev 8:3)

“Another angel,

With a golden censer,

And stood

At the altar.

He was given

A great quantity

Of incense

To offer

With the prayers

Of all the saints

On the golden altar

That is before the throne.”

John said, “Another angel (Καὶ ἄλλος ἄγγελος), with a golden censer (ἔχων λιβανωτὸν χρυσοῦν), came (ἦλθεν) and stood (καὶ ἐστάθη) at the altar (ἐπὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου).  He was given (καὶ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ) a great quantity of incense (θυμιάματα πολλὰ) to offer (ἵνα δώσει) with the prayers (ταῖς προσευχαῖς) of all the saints (ταῖς προσευχαῖς τῶν ἁγίων πάντων) on the golden altar (ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ χρυσοῦν) that is before the throne (τὸ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θρόνου).”  This is the only use of this Greek word that appears only in Revelation and not in any other canonical biblical NT writing, the word λιβανωτὸν, that means frankincense or a censer.  John said that another angel, besides the seven angels or archangels just mentioned, had a gold censer.  He came in and stood at altar.  Then he took a large quantity of incense to offer with prayers with all the other saints there on the heavenly golden altar that was in front of the throne.  After that short half-hour silence, the heavenly worship action began to pick up again.  Do you like incense in worship services?
