Demetrius is truthful (3 John 1:12)

Has testified

About Demetrius,

And so has the truth itself.

We also testify

For him.

You know

That our testimony

Is true.”

This author said “Everyone (ὑπὸ πάντων) has testified (μεμαρτύρηται) about Demetrius (Δημητρίῳ), and so has the truth itself (καὶ ὑπὸ αὐτῆς τῆς ἀληθείας).  We (καὶ ἡμεῖς) also testify (δὲ μαρτυροῦμεν) for him.  You know (καὶ οἶδας) that our testimony (ἡ μαρτυρία ἡμῶν) is true (ἀληθής ἐστιν).”  This author spoke about the good qualities of Demetrius.  He is probably not the Demetrius who was the Ephesian goddess Artemis silversmith mentioned in Acts, chapter 19.  However, that Demetrius may have converted to Christianity.  Everyone spoke highly of this Demetrius because it was true.  This author and their friends also spoke highly of him, and of course, whatever they said was true.  This Demetrius may be the person who brought this letter to Gaius.  He wanted to be sure that Gaius would welcome Demetrius, unlike Diotrephes.  This author had nothing but high praise for Demetrius.  Do you praise other people?
