For the sake
Of the name
ὑπὲρ γὰρ τοῦ Ὀνόματος ἐξῆλθαν μηδὲν λαμβάνοντες ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνικῶν.
This author said, “They began their journey (ἐξῆλθαν) for the sake of the name of Christ (ὑπὲρ γὰρ τοῦ Ὀνόματος), accepting (λαμβάνοντες) no support (μηδὲν) from the gentiles (ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνικῶν).” These Christian traveling brothers began their mission in the name of Jesus Christ, the Lord. However, they did not accept anything from the gentile pagans. They only accepted gifts or financial support from their fellow believing Christians. The use of the word ἐθνικῶν indicates that this may have been a Jewish Christian community and not a gentile group. There was no explicit mention of Jesus Christ here, just the “name” without any other indications. Do you have reverence for the name of Jesus Christ?
