Deceivers (2 John 1:7)

“Many deceivers

Have gone out

Into the world.

They do not confess

That Jesus Christ

Has come in the flesh.

Any such person

Is a deceiver

And an antichrist.”

This author said, “Many deceivers (ὅτι πολλοὶ πλάνοι) have gone out (ἐξῆλθον) into the world (εἰς τὸν κόσμον).  They do not confess (οἱ μὴ ὁμολογοῦντες) that Jesus Christ (Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν) has come (ἐρχόμενον) in the flesh (ἐν σαρκί).  Any such person is a deceiver (οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ πλάνος) and an antichrist (καὶ ὁ ἀντίχριστος).”  The other theme that 1 John had was about the antichrist or false teachers, especially in chapter 4.  Here he repeated the same theme.  Many deceiving people were in this world.  They do not confess or believe that Jesus Christ was here in the flesh.  They deny the incarnation of God in Jesus Christ.  These people deceive you.  They are “antichrists”, a term that was used by the author of these two letters of John exclusively, since no other author of the NT used this term, just here.  These deceiving false prophets were the antichrists, denying the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ.  Has someone ever tried to confuse you about the nature and person of Jesus Christ?
