Some things are hard to understand (2 Pet 3:16)

“Paul spoke

About these things,

As he does

In all his letters.

There are some things

In them

Hard to understand.

The ignorant

And unstable ones

Twist them

To their own destruction,

As they do the other scriptures.”

ὡς καὶ ἐν πάσαις ἐπιστολαῖς λαλῶν ἐν αὐταῖς περὶ τούτων, ἐν αἷς ἐστιν δυσνόητά τινα, ἃ οἱ ἀμαθεῖς καὶ ἀστήρικτοι στρεβλοῦσιν ὡς καὶ τὰς λοιπὰς γραφὰς πρὸς τὴν ἰδίαν αὐτῶν ἀπώλειαν.

This author said, “Paul spoke (λαλῶν) about these things (ἐν αὐταῖς περὶ τούτων) as he does in all his letters (ὡς καὶ ἐν πάσαις ἐπιστολαῖς).  There are (ἐστιν) some things (τινα) in them (ἐν αἷς) hard to understand (δυσνόητά).  The ignorant (ἃ οἱ ἀμαθεῖς) and the unstable ones (καὶ ἀστήρικτοι) twist them (στρεβλοῦσιν) to their own destruction (πρὸς τὴν ἰδίαν αὐτῶν ἀπώλειαν), as they do the other scriptures (ὡς καὶ τὰς λοιπὰς γραφὰς).”  Among the canonical Greek New Testament writings, this is the only time that these four words appeared in 2 Peter, the word δυσνόητά, that means hard to understand, and the word ἀμαθεῖς, that means unlearned or ignorant, as well as the word ἀστήρικτοι, that means unstable, unsettled, or unsteady, and finally the word στρεβλοῦσιν, that means to twist, torture, or pervert.  This author elaborated about the writings of Paul.  He said that Paul had also mentioned these things about the judgment day and the Parousia in his writings.  However, he admitted that some of the things that Paul wrote about are hard to understand.  The problem was that the ignorant ones and the unstable or unsteady fellow Christians were twisting or distorting the words of Paul.  These kinds of followers of Jesus Christ were bringing their own destruction upon themselves.  They were doing this to scriptures.  Thus, this author was putting the writings of Paul on the same level of being scripture or the bible as the Hebrew writings of the so-called Old Testament.  Do you find scripture or the Bible hard to understand?
