Grow in grace and knowledge (2 Pet 3:18)

“But grow

In grace

And knowledge

Of our Lord

And Savior

Jesus Christ. 

To him

Be the glory

Both now

And to the day

Of eternity.”

αὐξάνετε δὲ ἐν χάριτι καὶ γνώσει τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν καὶ Σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς ἡμέραν αἰῶνος.

“But grow (αὐξάνετε) in grace (δὲ ἐν χάριτι) and knowledge (καὶ γνώσει) of our Lord (τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν) and Savior (καὶ Σωτῆρος) Jesus Christ (Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ).  To him (αὐτῷ) be the glory (ἡ δόξα) both now (καὶ νῦν) and to the day of eternity (καὶ εἰς ἡμέραν αἰῶνος).”  This author wanted his readers to grow in grace and knowledge about Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior.  This ending doxology is somewhat similar to 1 Peter, chapter 4:11 “To him belongs the glory (ᾧ ἐστιν ἡ δόξα) and the power (καὶ τὸ κράτος) forever and ever (εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων).  Amen (ἀμήν).”  God is so powerful and glorified forever that we phrase him for all his glory and power that belongs to him for eternity.  I Peter, chapter 5:11 was also similar, “To him (αὐτῷ) be the power (τὸ κράτος) forever and ever (εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων).  Amen (ἀμήν).”  This author ended this letter of 2 Peter with a prayer to God, who is powerful since all power belongs to him for eternity.  The Amen was in some manuscripts.  Thus, this letter ends with a praise of God.  Do you praise God?
