“But the day of the Lord
Will come
Like a thief.
Then the heavens
Will pass away
With a loud noise.
The elements
Will be dissolved
With a burning great heat.
The earth
And everything
That is done on it
Will be burned.”
This author said, “But the day of the Lord (δὲ ἡμέρα Κυρίου) will come (Ἥξει) like a thief (ὡς κλέπτης). Then the heavens (ἐν ᾗ οἱ οὐρανοὶ) will pass away (παρελεύσονται) with a loud noise (ῥοιζηδὸν). The elements (στοιχεῖα) will be dissolved (λυθήσεται) with a burning great heat (δὲ καυσούμενα). The earth (καὶ γῆ) and everything that is done on it (καὶ τὰ ἐν αὐτῇ ἔργα) will be burned (εὑρεθήσεται).” Among the canonical Greek New Testament writings, this is the only time that these words appeared in 2 Peter, the word ῥοιζηδὸν, that means with a rushing sound or with a great noise, and the word καυσούμενα, that means to burn with great heat. This author explicitly explained about the day of the Lord, the Parousia, or the last judgment. The Second Coming of Jesus will be like a thief, sneaking up on us. The heavens would dissolve with a great or loud noise. The various elementary things will be dissolved in a great fire. Everything on earth will be burned. The end of the world will be a fiery heat wave, the divine hot climate change fire. Heaven and earth will be destroyed. Have you ever thought about the end of the world?
