Slaves of corruption (2 Pet 2:19)

“They promise them

Freedom,

But they themselves

Are slaves

Of corruption.

People become slaves

To whatever masters them.”

This author said, “They promise (ἐπαγγελλόμενοι) them (αὐτοῖς) freedom (ἐλευθερίαν), but they themselves are slaves (αὐτοὶ δοῦλοι ὑπάρχοντες) of corruption (τῆς φθορᾶς).  People become slaves (δεδούλωται) to whatever masters them (ᾧ γάρ τις ἥττηται, τούτῳ).”  This author continued with his description of the evil unrighteous people.  They promised a so-called freedom, when they themselves were held in the slavery of a destructive corruption.  People become or make themselves slaves to those things that control or master their lives.  The false illusion of freedom is really a slavery to one’s own passions.  Are you a slave to your own sensual passions?
