“God rescued Lot,
A righteous man,
Distressed
By the licentiousness conduct
Of the lawless.”
καὶ δίκαιον Λὼτ καταπονούμενον ὑπὸ τῆς τῶν ἀθέσμων ἐν ἀσελγείᾳ ἀναστροφῆς ἐρύσατο,
This author said, “God rescued (ἐρύσατο) Lot (Λὼτ), a righteous man (καὶ δίκαιον), distressed (καταπονούμενον) by the licentiousness conduct (ἐν ἀσελγείᾳ ἀναστροφῆς) of the lawless (ὑπὸ τῆς τῶν ἀθέσμων).” Among the canonical Greek New Testament writings, this is the only time that this word appeared in 2 Peter, ἀθέσμων, that means lawless, unrestrained, or licentious. This author elaborated on the situation of Lot, as found in Genesis, chapter 19. God rescued Lot because he was a righteous man, distressed or disturbed about the sensual licentious behavior of those around him, the unrestrained lawless criminals. Are you bothered by bad behavior?
