They will use deceptive words (2 Pet 2:3)

“In their greed,

They will exploit you

With deceptive words.

Their pronounced condemnation,

A long time ago,

Has not been idle.

Their destruction is

Not asleep.”

καὶ ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ πλαστοῖς λόγοις ὑμᾶς ἐμπορεύσονται· οἷς τὸ κρίμα ἔκπαλαι οὐκ ἀργεῖ, καὶ ἡ ἀπώλεια αὐτῶν οὐ νυστάζει.

This author said, “In their greed (καὶ ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ), they will exploit (ἐμπορεύσονται) you (ὑμᾶς) with deceptive (πλαστοῖς) words (λόγοις).  Their pronounced condemnation (οἷς τὸ κρίμα), a long time ago (ἔκπαλαι), has not been idle (οὐκ ἀργεῖ).  Their destruction (καὶ ἡ ἀπώλεια αὐτῶν) is not asleep (οὐ νυστάζει).”  Among the canonical Greek New Testament writings, this is the only time that these words appeared in 2 Peter, πλαστοῖς, that means formed, molded, feigned, made up, or counterfeit, and the word ἔκπαλαι, that means long ago, for a long while or from of old, as well as the word ἀργεῖ, that means to be idle, linger, or delay.  This author concluded his remarks about the deceptive false teachers.  They were acting out of greed.  Thus, they were exploiting the other Christians with their deceptive or plastic words.  Don’t worry!  Their pronounced judgment from a long time ago was not idle.  Their destruction was not asleep.  Just you wait and see!  They would get theirs!  The Christians had to be patient.  God had already rendered his decisive judgment on them.  Do you believe that God judges the good and the evil people?
