The precious blood of Jesus Christ (1 Pet 1:19)

“You were ransomed

With the precious blood

Of Jesus Christ,

Like that of a lamb

Without defect

Or blemish.”

ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι ὡς ἀμνοῦ ἀμώμου καὶ ἀσπίλου Χριστοῦ,

This author said, “You were ransomed with the precious blood (ἀλλὰ τιμίῳ αἵματι) of Christ (Χριστοῦ), like that of a lamb (ὡς ἀμνοῦ) without defect (ἀμώμου) or blemish (καὶ ἀσπίλου).”  This was a clear reference to Jesus Christ as the lamb of God.  Their salvation came from a person like the suffering servant of Isaiah, chapter 53:7-8, “He was oppressed.  He was afflicted.  Yet he did not open his mouth.  He was like a lamb that is led to the slaughter.  He was like a sheep that before its shearers is silent.  Thus, he did not open his mouth.”  This suffering servant does not open his mouth to complain, unlike Job and others.  Even though he was oppressed and afflicted, he was like a lamb led to slaughter or a sheep about to have his wool sheared, since he never opened his mouth.  Also note that the Passover lamb also had to be unblemished as in Exodus, chapter 12:5, “Your lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old male.”  Clearly, this was an allusion to the Jewish Passover ritual, since the Passover commemorated the saving of the Israelites from Egypt.  Jesus Christ was the new savior with his precious blood.  Are you saved by the precious blood of Jesus Christ?
