“Now that you have purified
Your soul
By your obedience
To the truth,
You have genuine mutual
Brotherly love.
Love one another deeply
From the heart!”
This author said “Now that you have purified (ἡγνικότες) your souls (Τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν) by your obedience (ἐν τῇ ὑπακοῇ) to the truth (τῆς ἀληθείας), you have genuine mutual brotherly love (εἰς φιλαδελφίαν ἀνυπόκριτον). Love one another (ἀγαπήσατε) deeply (ἐκτενῶς) from the heart (ἐκ καρδίας)!” This author had some praise for his readers and yet a command from Jesus. They had purified their souls. They were obedient to the truth. They had a genuine brotherly love for each other. Now, he then asked them to love each other deeply from the heart. This author was happy with them, but still wanted more. Do you love deeply from the heart?
