“Therefore,
Prepare your minds
For action!
Be sober minded!
Fully set all your hope
On the grace
That Jesus Christ
Will bring you
When he is revealed.”
This author said “Therefore, prepare (Διὸ ἀναζωσάμενοι) your minds for action (τὰς ὀσφύας τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν)! Be sober minded (νήφοντες, τελείως)! Fully (τελείως) set all your hope (ἐλπίσατε) on the grace (χάριν) that Jesus Christ (Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ) will bring you (ἐπὶ τὴν φερομένην ὑμῖν) when he is revealed (ἐν ἀποκαλύψει).” Only this author, 1 Peter, among all the canonical NT works used this word ἀναζωσάμενοι, that means to gird up, brace up, active exertion, or get ready for work. This author told his readers to be vigilant. They had to get their minds ready for action. They had to gird up the loins of their mind in a sober minded way. They had to place all their hope on the coming grace of Jesus Christ, because he was going to be revealed to them. What do you know about the revelation of Jesus Christ?
