Be obedient children (1 Pet 1:14)

“Like obedient children,

Do not be conformed

To the desires

That you formerly had

In your ignorance.”

ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς, μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι ταῖς πρότερον ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν ἐπιθυμίαις,

This author said, “Like obedient children (ὡς τέκνα ὑπακοῆς), do not be conformed (μὴ συσχηματιζόμενοι) to the desires (ἐπιθυμίαις) that you formerly had (ταῖς πρότερον) in your ignorance (ἐν τῇ ἀγνοίᾳ ὑμῶν).”  This author wanted these now obedient childlike followers of Jesus Christ to not conform to their former desires.  Back then they had lived in ignorance.  Now they had the light of Christ to guide them.  Was this a hint at some gentile pagan Christians in this audience?  Did you leave your ignorance of Jesus Christ?
