The prophets were careful (1 Pet 1:10)

“Concerning this salvation,

The prophets,

Who prophesized

Of the grace

That was to be yours,

Made a careful search

And diligent inquiry.”

περὶ ἧς σωτηρίας ἐξεζήτησαν καὶ ἐξηραύνησαν προφῆται οἱ περὶ τῆς εἰς ὑμᾶς χάριτος προφητεύσαντες,

This author said, “Concerning this salvation (περὶ ἧς σωτηρίας), the prophets (προφῆται), who prophesized (προφητεύσαντες) of the grace (χάριτος) that was to be yours (περὶ τῆς εἰς ὑμᾶς), made a careful search (ἐξεζήτησαν) and diligent inquiry (καὶ ἐξηραύνησαν).”  Only this author, 1 Peter, among all the canonical NT works used this word ἐξηραύνησαν, that means to search out diligently or examine carefully in detail.  This author indicated that the ancient Jewish prophets had prophesized about the grace that they had today.  However, these prophets had made a very diligent and careful search about the messiah and the salvation to come with him.  What do you think about the ancient Israelite prophets?
