The prophets testified about the coming of Christ (1 Pet 1:11)

“The prophets inquired

About the place

Or time

That the Spirit

Of Christ

Within them

Indicated,

When they testified

In advance

To the sufferings

Destined

For Christ

And the subsequent glory.”

ἐραυνῶντες εἰς τίνα ἢ ποῖον καιρὸν ἐδήλου τὸ ἐν αὐτοῖς Πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ προμαρτυρόμενον τὰ εἰς Χριστὸν παθήματα καὶ τὰς μετὰ ταῦτα δόξας·

This author said, “The prophets inquired (ἐραυνῶντες) about the place (εἰς τίνα ἢ ποῖον) or time (καιρὸν) that the Spirit (Πνεῦμα) of Christ (Χριστοῦ) within them (τὸ ἐν αὐτοῖς) indicated (ἐδήλου), when they testified in advance (προμαρτυρόμενον) to the sufferings (παθήματα) destined for Christ (τὰ εἰς Χριστὸν) and the subsequent glory (καὶ τὰς μετὰ ταῦτα δόξας).”  Only this author, 1 Peter, among all the canonical NT works used this word προμαρτυρόμενον, that means to say beforehand, predict, testify or protest beforehand.  This author insisted that the Israelite prophets had inquired about the time and place of the coming of the Christ within themselves.  They then testified before it happened.  They talked about the sufferings and subsequent glory of Jesus Christ.  The prophets had received this from God regarding the coming and the actions of Jesus Christ.  What do you think of the prophets and their predictions about the Messiah – Christ – Savior?
