“You have been destined
By God
The Father,
And the sanctification
Of the Spirit
To be obedient
To Jesus Christ.
You are to be sprinkled
With his blood.
May grace
And peace
Be yours
In abundance.”
This author said, “You have been destined (κατὰ πρόγνωσιν) by God (Θεοῦ) the Father (Πατρός), and the sanctification (ἐν ἁγιασμῷ) of the Spirit (Πνεύματος) to be obedient (εἰς ὑπακοὴν) to Jesus Christ (Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ). You are to be sprinkled (καὶ ῥαντισμὸν) with his blood (αἵματος). May grace (χάρις) and peace (καὶ εἰρήνη) be yours (ὑμῖν) in abundance (πληθυνθείη).” Here we have a Trinitarian formula. They were destined or chosen by God the Father. They were sanctified by the Holy Spirit. They were obedient to Jesus Christ. Then they were sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. This was a reminder of the Jewish Yom Kippur on the day of atonement, where the blood of animals was sprinkled to show forgiveness. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ purified and redeemed the followers of Jesus Christ. The act of purification was the Christian baptism. Do you feel sanctified?
