Confess your sins and pray (Jas 5:16)

“Therefore,

Confess your sins

To one another!

Pray for one another,

So that you may be healed.

The prayer

Of the righteous

Is very powerful

And effective.”

James said, “Therefore (οὖν), confess (ἐξομολογεῖσθε) your sins (τὰς ἁμαρτίας) to one another (τὰς ἁμαρτίας)!  Pray (καὶ προσεύχεσθε) for one another (ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων), so that you may be healed (ὅπως ἰαθῆτε).  The prayer (δέησις) of the righteous (δικαίου) is very powerful (πολὺ ἰσχύει) and effective (ἐνεργουμένη).”  James wanted his Jewish Christian readers to confess their sins to each other.  He wanted them to pray for and over each other.  Thus, they might be healed.  As he explained, the prayers of the righteous ones are very strong and worked very well.  The prayers of the pious people were worth more than the prayers of others.  Do you ask pious people to pray for you?
