We hope in eternal life (Titus 1:2)

“We hope

In the eternal life

That God,

Who never lies,

Promised

Before the ages began.”

ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι ζωῆς αἰωνίου, ἣν ἐπηγγείλατο ὁ ἀψευδὴς Θεὸς πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων,

Paul said, “We hope (ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι) in the eternal life (ζωῆς αἰωνίου) that God (Θεὸς), who never lies (ὁ ἀψευδὴς), promised (ἣν ἐπηγγείλατο) before the ages began (πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων).”  Only this letter to Titus used this word ἀψευδὴς, that means free from falsehood, not guilty of falsehood, or truthful.  This was very clear.  Paul and the other Christians believed in eternal life because a trusted never lying God had promised or proclaimed it before the world began.  God wanted humans to have an eternal life.  That was the original plan.  Do you hope in eternal life?
