Sound words (2 Tim. 1:13)

“Hold to the standard

Of sound words

That you have heard

From me,

About faith

And love

That are in Christ Jesus.”

Paul said, “Hold to the standard (ὑποτύπωσιν ἔχε) of sound words (ὑγιαινόντων λόγων) that you have heard from me (ὧν παρ’ ἐμοῦ ἤκουσας), about faith (ἐν πίστει) and love (καὶ ἀγάπῃ) that are in Christ Jesus (ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ).”  Only this letter to Timothy used this unique word ὑποτύπωσιν, that means an outline, sketch, an example, or a pattern.  Paul reminded Timothy that he should keep the same standard pattern of good words and teachings that he had heard from him.  Paul had spoken about faith and love in Jesus Christ.  Paul wanted Timothy to be a correct teacher about the faith and the love of Jesus Christ.  Paul was always complaining about false teaching.  Timothy was to maintain the truth about Jesus Christ.  Do you hold to the truth about Jesus Christ?
