Some will renounce the faith (1 Tim. 4:1)

“Now the Spirit

Expressly says

That in later times,

Some will renounce

The faith

By paying attention

To deceitful spirits

And the teachings

Of demons.”

Paul said, “Now the Spirit (Τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα) expressly (ῥητῶς) says (λέγει) that in later times (ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς), some will renounce (ἀποστήσονταί τινες) the faith (τῆς πίστεως) by paying attention (προσέχοντες) to deceitful spirits (πνεύμασιν πλάνοις) and the teachings (καὶ διδασκαλίαις) of demons (δαιμονίων).”  Only this letter to Timothy used this unique word ῥητῶς, that means in stated terms, expressly, explicitly, or in so many words, and the word ὑστέροις, that means latter or later.  Paul explained that in the later times or the end times, some people would renounce their faith by listening to deceitful spirits and demonic teachings.  Paul reiterated that the Holy Spirit had expressly said that this was going to happen, so that it should not come as a surprise.  Paul reminded Timothy, that he assumed that some of the Christian believers would give up their faith in Jesus Christ because of deceitful evil spirits or devils.  Would you give up your faith in Jesus Christ?
