I hope to visit you soon (1 Tim. 3:14)

“I hope

To come to you soon.

But I am writing

These instructions

To you.”

Ταῦτά σοι γράφω ἐλπίζων ἐλθεῖν πρὸς σὲ τάχειον·

Paul said, “I hope (ἐλπίζων) to come (ἐλθεῖν) to you (πρὸς σὲ) soon (τάχειον).  But I am writing (γράφω) these instructions to you (Ταῦτά σοι).”  Apparently, Paul wanted to join Timothy in Ephesus soon.  However, he was still writing these instructions to Timothy.  This is not clear.  If he was going to see Timothy soon in Ephesus, why was he writing this letter?  Paul answered that in the next verse when he talked about a possible delay in visiting Timothy.  Have you ever had to delay a visit that you wanted to make?
