To the mystery
With a clear conscience.”
ἔχοντας τὸ μυστήριον τῆς πίστεως ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει.
Paul said, “The deacons must hold (ἔχοντας) to the mystery (τὸ μυστήριον) of faith (τῆς πίστεως) with a clear conscience (ἐν καθαρᾷ συνειδήσει).” Paul explained that the deacons had to have a good grasp of the mysteries of the Christian belief with a clear conscience. Perhaps, the deacons were the instructors for those who were joining the developing Christian community. These mysteries were about Jesus Christ and God’s saving role through him. Thus, they had to have a good grasp of what these mysteries of the faith were all about. Do you have a good grasp of the mysteries of your faith in Jesus Christ?
