Was formed first,
Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη, εἶτα Εὔα.
Paul said, “Adam (Ἀδὰμ γὰρ) was formed (ἐπλάσθη) first (γὰρ πρῶτος), then Eve (εἶτα Εὔα).” Only the Pauline letters used this word ἐπλάσθη, that means to form or mold. Paul used the Jewish Hebrew Bible from Genesis, chapter 2:21-23, and not the verse from chapter 1:27, where “God created mankind in this image. In the image of God, he created them, male and female, he created them.” Paul preferred the story of Adam falling asleep and then God taking a rib from the man and making it into a woman. He created the woman out of a man. Thus, Paul’s Hebrew Pharisaical biblical training centered on this older Yahwistic story rather than the later Elohist story of creation. Thus, Paul had a theological foundation for his belief that women should be subject to men. Do you think that there is a theological foundation for the belief that women should be subject to men?
