Jesus Christ is a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:6)

“Jesus Christ

Gave himself

As a ransom

For all people,

That was attested

At the right time.”

ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων, τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις·,

Paul said, “Jesus Christ gave himself (ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν) as a ransom (ἀντίλυτρον) for all people (ὑπὲρ πάντων), that was attested (τὸ μαρτύριον) at the right time (καιροῖς ἰδίοις).”  Only this letter to Timothy used this unique word ἀντίλυτρον, that means a ransom.  Paul indicated that Jesus Christ gave himself up as a ransom for all people.  This is the only time that the word ransom was used in the New Testament writings.  He gave this witness or attested this at the right or proper time.  Jesus Christ has ransomed or saved us with his crucifixion from the evil ways of this world.  Are you happy to be ransomed from the captivity of sin?
