Lead a good life (1 Thess. 2:12)

“We urged you.

We encouraged you.

We pleaded

That you lead a life

Worthy of God

Who calls you

Into his own kingdom

And glory.”

Paul said “We urged you (παρακαλοῦντες ὑμᾶς) and encouraged you (καὶ παραμυθούμενοι).  We pleaded (καὶ μαρτυρόμενοι) that you lead or walk a life (εἰς τὸ περιπατεῖν) worthy (ἀξίως) of God (τοῦ Θεοῦ) who calls you (τοῦ καλοῦντος ὑμᾶς) into his own kingdom (εἰς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ βασιλείαν) and glory (καὶ δόξαν).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word ἀξίως, that means worthily or in a manner worthy of.  Paul explained that he had exhorted or urged them, while at the same encouraging and comforting the Thessalonians.  He had pleaded with them or demanded of them that they lead or walk a worthy life.  God had called them into his kingdom and glory.  They in turn should lead a lead worthy of this high calling.  Do you walk or live a good life?
